This Album is part 1. of a two part album about home, belonging, and kin.
"Ayllu" (pronounced Ai-yu) is a quechua word that refers to a community unit in Incan society that traditionally shared resources and land, but were not always related by blood. Members could be inducted into the group and become part of an extended network of self sufficient communities. Now the term is used a bit more loosely and can refer to a close social group. The term was once described to me to mean heart family, and it has seemed the perfect term for the kinds of close community bonds many of us were forced to form during the last two years of the pandemic.

The Album is intended to be listened to in one sitting; the tracks bleed into each other naturally and should be played without space in between.
